Designer and Entrepreneur, Carina Hildebrandt, established her eponymous label of luxury 100% baby alpaca and organic cotton knits in 2006, which are sustainably and ethically produced in her artisanal workshop in Peru. Today the collection is known for its refined, understated style, rich colour palette and unique combination of textures.
Carina’s love affair with textiles and colour began at an early age. Growing up in the vibrant hub of Hong Kong, she spent summers trawling fabric markets in Rajasthan, India and travelling across the Far East and South America with memorable moments in Tibet and Nepal where she and her mother discovered and treasured different cultures and their rich heritages.
It wasn’t until 2006 that Carina took the bold step to start her venture. With a Maths degree under her belt and an astute business brain on her shoulders, Carina had headed into a finance career in the city. A chance encounter with the unique alpaca fibre at Maison et Objet in Paris sparked an idea for a business that Carina pursued with characteristic determination and which is now celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Trusting her instincts, Carina travelled alone to Peru and began experimenting. By 2010, she took the bold step to single-handedly set up her own workshop. With sustainability and ethical working practices at the core of her business, Carina and her team developed a unique finishing technique to apply to the highest grade raw Baby Alpaca and Organic Cottons used in her collection.
This labour intensive, hands on process allowed Carina to experiment on the yarns giving them an incredibly soft, textured touch that lasts. Carina’s collection has grown organically with the business since its launch and she now sells globally to a dedicated clientele spanning the US, Germany and Scandinavia. In Autumn 2016, she plans to extend her collection to include homeware for the first time, a development that nods to her interior design diploma.
Carina designs from her studio by the river in Barnes, London and every season visits her workshop in Lima, Peru to finalise the carefully considered detail on each piece.

OUR FASHION REVOLUTION - WHO MAKES YOUR CLOTHES...
We pay the top rate for all our workers as they are so highly skilled, we pride ourselves on keeping our team happy and so they stay with the company for years. Their journey to work is a pleasant one as our workshop is in a safe part of Lima. Bigger factories tend to be in remote parts which can be dangerous. Everyone takes great pride in their work and our attention to detail we hope is evident in the beautiful pieces we produce.
